How much does hair color cost in Amarillo?

Hair color in Amarillo ranges from roughly $70 for a basic single-process at a budget salon to $1,000 and above for a full transformation at a specialty color salon.

At WHITEFOX, essential color and blonding starts at $131 and runs to about $406, and transformational color and blonding starts at $348 and runs past $1,000 for the largest changes. Every current range is published on our pricing page.

The reason for that spread is that "hair color" describes two very different appointments. One maintains what you already have. The other builds something new, and it is priced by the hours and the product it genuinely takes.

Essential versus transformational, and why it matters to the number

Essential color and blonding, $131 to $406. Maintenance. A root touch-up, a partial highlight, a gloss or toner refresh, gray coverage on hair that is already colored. You have a color you like and you are keeping it.

Transformational color and blonding, $348 to $1,000 and up. A change. Going from brunette to blonde, correcting someone else's work, moving from single-process to dimensional, or lifting hair several levels. These are long appointments, sometimes across more than one visit.

Most people asking about cost are thinking about the first category and are quoted for the second, or the reverse. Which one you are reserving is the first thing to settle.

The five things that move the number

Length and density. Product cost and time both scale with how much hair there is. Waist-length dense hair genuinely takes twice the product of a fine bob.

How far you are going. Lifting hair two levels is a different service from lifting it five. Each level of lift adds time, and past a point it adds a second appointment for the hair's sake.

What is already on your hair. Box dye, henna, and years of layered permanent color all have to be worked around. This is the single most common reason a quote comes back higher than expected, and it is why we ask about your color history before quoting.

Whether it is a correction. Correction is priced by the hour because nobody can promise in advance how the hair will respond. Our piece on fixing box dye, bands and brassy tones explains what is realistic.

Who is doing it. Senior stylists sit higher in the range. Our academy stylists, trained to the same method, start at $110 for color and blonding, which is a real option worth asking about.

What the investment includes here

A color consultation, the formulation, the service itself, a toner or gloss where the color needs it, a finish style, and an aftercare plan built for the color you just paid for. There is a fuller description of the process on our color page.

Aftercare is not an upsell attached at the end. Lightened and colored hair fades and shifts tone without the right shampoo and heat protection, and an aftercare plan is what makes the color last long enough to justify what it cost.

Because "good enough" was never your standard.

If you want a real number for your hair rather than a range, that is what the consultation is for. Become a WHITEFOX Guest and you will get a tailored quote and a timeline before anything is mixed.

Blonding costs more, and here is why

Lightening is the most technical thing that happens in a salon. It is slower, it uses more product, it needs more checking through the process, and it carries more risk if it is rushed. Blonding sits at the upper end of both ranges for that reason.

It also has a longer relationship attached. A blonde that holds up needs a toner or gloss between full services, so the honest way to think about the cost is annually rather than per visit. That is the conversation we have on our blonding side rather than quoting a single number and letting the follow-up appointments surprise you.

Why the cheap color often costs more

Correction is the most expensive service we offer, and almost every correction we take on started as a cheaper appointment somewhere else, or a box from a store.

The pattern is consistent. A discounted lightening service leaves banding or hot roots, the guest tries to fix the tone at home, and the correction that follows takes two appointments and costs more than doing it properly the first time would have. That is not a scare story, it is most of our Tuesday.

How to get an accurate quote

Send photos of your hair in natural light, unstyled. List every color service in the last two years including anything done at home, and be specific about box dye, because it changes the plan. Send the photo of what you want. Then say what your realistic maintenance budget is per year, not per visit.

With those four things your stylist can quote you accurately and tell you whether your goal is one appointment or three. If your goal spans several visits, a tailored plan sequences it so you are not paying for guesswork along the way.

Frequently asked questions

How much does hair color cost in Amarillo? Roughly $70 for a basic single-process at a budget salon up to $1,000 and beyond for a full transformation at a specialty salon. At WHITEFOX, essential color and blonding runs $131 to $406 and transformational color and blonding starts at $348.

How much is balayage in Amarillo? Balayage falls into the essential or transformational range depending on how much lift is involved and how long your hair is. A first-time balayage on dark hair is usually a transformational service. Your stylist will quote at the consultation.

Why is color correction so expensive? Because it is priced by time and nobody can predict exactly how previously colored hair will respond. Corrections often need multiple appointments, and each one is a full service.

Is there a cheaper option for color? Yes. Our academy stylists are trained to the same WHITEFOX method and their color and blonding services start at $110. Availability is more limited, so ask the front desk.

Does the price include a toner and a blow-dry? Toner or gloss is included where the color needs it, and every service finishes with a style. Your quote at consultation is the number you pay.

How often will I need to come back? Every ten to sixteen weeks for a full service, with a toner or gloss refresh in between for blondes. Your stylist gives you a schedule as part of the plan.

Knowing the number before you commit is reasonable, which is why ours are published. When you want a quote for your hair specifically, reserve a color consultation or call the salon at (806) 236-6047.
